one ewing teacher.

school are about $1,200, contributed by the Freedmen's Board
of the nited Presbyterian Church.
A Bible les on i taught each da r in each department. This
chool is located in Mecklenburg County, southern Virginia,
about twelve miles from any other school for colored children.

ONE of the chools of the United Presbyterian Church.
Founded in 1894. The plant con ists of a large farm, the
chool building. which al 0 serve as a church, and is known as
the Jennie Hasting -Gille pie Memorial, .0 called in honor of
th fir t ecretary of the Junior Mi ionary Societie of the
hurch, the teachers' home, and a dormitory made from an
old church that tood on the ground. In 1908 there were 7
teacher and 216 students enrolled. The annual e.-xpen e ,
'3,000, are paid by the Board of Freedmen s Mis ion of the
burch. Pre ident J. N. Colton ays: "We have Bible study
ea·h day in the day choo\. There are few tudents over ten
years of acre in thi chool who have not accepted Chri t."
