.The principal wa born in British Guiana. His
• parent were native of Yombaland in We t Central
Mrica. He began hi studie in. ierra Leone, Africa,
and continued in Queen's College, Taunton, England,
matriculating in London niversity - the fir t West
Mrican to pa s the univer ity examinations for the
intermediate degree in art .
His eyesight failed, and the physician aid he mu t
return to Africa or be blind. Faduma aid," I prefer
to be an intelligent blind man." He recovered hi
ight and after three year of tudy in England, became
enior ma tel' of the Sierra Leone High chool, and then
came to America. He pent three years at Yale
Divinity School, won $400, for po t-graduate work,
