the north carolina school of science and mathematics "an affiliate school of the university of north carolin " c. DOCUMENTS DIRECTOR'S REPORT TO THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES March 7, 1986 AUG J J 1987 N. C. STATE LIBRARY RALBGH The main body of this repor t consists of r eports forwarded to me by Dr . William W. Youngblood, Principal and Deputy Director for School Programs, and by Dr. Braughn Taylor, Deputy Director for Operations and Institutional Advancement. Their reports will give you a comprehensive view of the status of the School at present as well as of plans and projects which are currently underway. As always, these reports prepared by these administrators and their associates provide evidence of (1) the diversity and complexity of the many activities that all of us are engaged in; (2) the quality and the efforts of the faculty and staff as they carry out their responsibilities; (3) the comprehensive nature of the service the School is providing to its numerous constituents; and (4) areas of review and planning for unmet needs and goals. All of these are part of the ongoing evolutionary process that continues even as we near the end of the sixth year of operation and the seventh year since I arrived to assume the r esponsibilities of the directorship. Various administrators who contributed to the r eports will be present at t he Board meeting to answer any specific quest i ons or to receive comments and suggestions about their reports and the acti vities of their offices. The following parts of my report will pertain to various other areas within my direct responsibilities. Governance The tragic death of our Trustee, Dr. Ronald E. McNair, has created a vacancy on our Board of Trustees. This vacancy is within the category of those who are appointed by the Board of Governors without regard to place of residence. At the meeting of the Board of Governors on February 14th, that Board was informed of the vacancy and asked for its suggestions for replacement. I have received a letter from Mr. John Kennedy, Secretary to the Board of Governors, also requesting suggestions from our Board of Trustees. p.o. box 2418 west club boulevard and broad street durham, n.c. 27705
