Cancer of the brain and other central nervous system (CNS) excluding benign cases, was the 16th most frequently occurring and the ninth leading cause of cancer death in North Carolina from 2008 to 2012. It is anticipated that 732 people (407 males and 325 females) in North Carolina will be diagnosed with and 506 people (282 males and 224 females) will die of cancer of the brain and other CNS in 2015. Incidence The percentage of cases of brain and other CNS cancer from 2008 to 2012 is displayed by age group in Figure 1. About 12 percent of brain and other CNS cancer were diagnosed in people ages 0 to 19. Between 2008 and 2012, the age-adjusted incidence rate for brain and other CNS cancer in North Carolina was 6.6 per 100,000 persons per year. In general, men are more likely to be diagnosed with brain and other CNS cancer than women (Figure 2).
