EASLEY REAPPOINTS OVERHOLT, PATE AND TANNER TO MILITARY AFFAIRS COMMISSION Raleigh - Gov. Mike Easley has reappointed retired Maj. Gen. Hugh Overholt of New Bern, Troy Pate of Goldsboro and Hal Tanner Jr. of Goldsboro to the North Carolina Advisory Commission on Military Affairs. Overholt is an attorney at Ward and Smith. He received a Bachelor’s degree from the University of Arkansas and graduated from the University of Arkansas School of Law. Pate is a consultant. He is a member of the Air Force Chief of Staff’s Civic Leader Group and the Seymour Support Council. Pate received the 2003 Wayne County Chamber of Commerce Cornerstone Award and the Distinguished Service Award from East Carolina University. Pate is a U.S. Navy veteran. He received a Bachelor’s degree in physical education from East Carolina University. Tanner is publisher of the Goldsboro News-Argus. He is active in the Goldsboro Rotary Club, the Salvation Army and the United Way. He received a Bachelor’s degree in business administration from Barton College. The commission advises the Governor and the secretary of the N. C. Department of Commerce on ways to strengthen the state`s relationship with the military. The commission also strives to protect military installations from downsizing and develops a strategic plan to provide initiatives to support long-term viability and prosperity in the military. The commission has 30 members, each serving a two-year term. The governor appoints 15 members. The Senate President Pro Tempore and the Speaker of the House each appoint three members. The secretaries of the departments of Crime Control and Public Safety and Commerce, the commanding officers of the state’s military installations, the commander of the Elizabeth City U.S. Coast Guard Support Center and the adjutant general of the N.C. National Guard also serve on the commission. ###
