Perdue Announces 64 Students Selected for Summer Internships with State Agencies Program is Coordinated by Youth Advocacy and Involvement Office RALEIGH – Gov. Bev Perdue today announced that 64 North Carolina college, graduate and law students have been selected for 10-week summer internships with state agencies. Now in its 40th year, the N.C. State Government Internship Program is coordinated by the Youth Advocacy and Involvement Office in the Department of Administration. “Developing a strong resume can be difficult for anyone in this economy, but the State Government Internship Program will give 64 of our best and brightest students a chance to really prove themselves this summer,” Gov. Perdue said. “They will experience diverse challenges in offices across the state, gaining real-world job skills and, I hope, a passion for a public service career.” This year, 930 students from 82 counties and 132 post-secondary institutions applied for internships, a significant jump from 714 applications in 2009. Through a competitive selection process overseen by the N.C. Internship Council, 64 students were selected to work in 18 departments and 46 divisions of state government. Internships begin on May 24 and continue through July 30. Students will receive $8.25 an hour. The jobs span the state and include a wide range of important tasks. The students, their home counties and their assignments are: Buncombe County Tiffany Lanier of Arden, a senior geology major at Western Carolina University, has accepted the Landslide Geology Field Assistant internship with the Department of Environment and Natural Resources in Swannanoa.
