EASLEY APPOINTS STATON TO VAGABOND SCHOOL OF THE DRAMA RALEIGH – Gov. Mike Easley has appointed Joy Spearman Staton of Hendersonville to the Vagabond School of the Drama Board of Directors. Staton is the Henderson County extension director for the N.C. Cooperative Extension Service. She is a member of the Henderson County Education Foundation, the Hendersonville Kiwanis Club, the Land of Sky Regional Council, Epsilon Sigma Phi and the N.C. Association of Extension Family and Consumer Sciences. Staton received the Epsilon Sigma Phi County Performance Award in 2004 and the Outstanding Extension Service Award from the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences at N.C. State University in 2000. She received her bachelor’s degree in home economics education from Mars Hill College, her master’s degree in home economics education from Western Carolina University and is currently pursuing her doctorate in agriculture and extension education from N.C. State University. The Vagabond School of the Drama Board of Directors oversees operation of the School in conjunction with the professional theatre operated during the summer at the Flat Rock Playhouse in Henderson, N.C. The board consists of 35 members, each serving a two-year term. The governor appoints five members. ###
