EASLEY APPOINTS MAYER TO COMMISSION FOR HEALTH SERVICES RALEIGH – Gov. Mike Easley has appointed Theodore F. Mayer of Raleigh to the North Carolina State Commission for Health Services. Mayer is a dental consultant at Wake Technical Community College. He is an officer of the Raleigh-Wake County Dental Society and a member of the North Carolina Dental Society. He serves as a clinic evaluator and product reviewer for the American Dental Association, as well as a regional dental examiner for the Council of Interstate Testing Agencies. Mayer worked for the United States Air Force Dental Service from 1982-1986. He has volunteered with Give Kids a Smile, Wake Smiles Clinic, the Special Olympics, the Jewish Community Health Fair, the Spanish Community Health Fair and the Men’s Baptist Mobile Dental Clinic. Mayer received his Bachelor’s degree in denistry and his Doctorate in dental surgery from the University of Illinois in Chicago. The commission adopts rules to protect and promote public health and is authorized to adopt and implement the public health programs administered by the Department of Health and Human Services. The board has 13 members, each serving a four-year term. The governor appoints nine members. Four members are elected by the N.C. Medical Society. ###
