EASLEY REAPPOINTS BLACKMON, JENEST AND SPENCE TO LICENSE TO GIVE TRUST FUND COMMISSION RALEIGH – Gov. Mike Easley has reappointed David Blackmon of Asheville, Edward Jenest of Asheville and Tony Spence of Angier to the License to Give Trust Fund Commission. Blackmon is the director of pastoral care for Mission Hospitals. He is a deacon at First Baptist Church in Asheville and a board member for Aston Park Health Care Facility. Blackmon received his Bachelor’s degree in education from the University of Georgia in Athens, his Master’s degree in divinity from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Fort Worth, Tex. and his Master’s degree in health administration from UNC at Chapel Hill. Jenest is retired from Abbott Laboratories. He is a funding council core volunteer for United Way of Asheville-Buncombe County, a past chair of the N.C. Coalition on Donation and a volunteer housebuilder for Asheville Area Habitat for Humanity. Jenest received his associates degree in chemistry from Lawrence Technological University in Southfield, Mich. Spence is the assistant director of Driver and Vehicles Services at N.C. Division of Motor Vehicles. He is a member of the State Employees Credit Union Advisory Board and chair of the Unlicensed Driver Workgroup on the DOT’s Executive Committee for Highway Safety. Spence received his Bachelor’s degree from East Carolina University. The commission works with the Department of Transportation and the Division of Motor Vehicles to maintain a statewide online organ donor web site. The site enables federally designated organ procurement organizations and eye banks to have timely access to the names of individuals who have stated to the DMV their intent to be an organ donor and have an organ donation symbol on their driver’s license or identification card. The commission has 15 members. The governor appoints seven members. The Senate President Pro Tempore and the Speaker of the House each appoint four members. ###
