Mike Easley appointed Lee Carol Giduz of Lenoir and Thomas Sayre of Raleigh to the North Carolina Arts Council. Giduz is the executive director of the Caldwell Arts Council. She is a volunteer for Habitat for Humanity and serves as a member of the Lenoir Economic Development Commission. Giduz is a participant in the William C. Friday Fellowship program. She is a member of ARTS North Carolina and the Western Arts Administrators of North Carolina. Sayre is one of the founding members of Clearscapes, a multi-disciplinary design firm. He was the recipient of the Design Guild Regional Award from N.C. State University’s College of Design in 2002. Sayre received the Raleigh Medal of Arts in 2000, and was awarded a National Endowment for the Arts grant in 1995. He serves as the chair of the board of the Lucy Daniels School. Sayre’s interests encompass visual art, dance and music, and he often performs with the band “Spot.” The N.C. Arts Council is made up of 24 members, all appointed by the Governor, who serve three-year terms. The mission of the N.C. Arts Council, which celebrates those who create and enjoy art in all 100 counties, is to enrich the cultural life of the state. The Arts Council nurtures and supports excellence in the arts and provides opportunities for every North Carolinian to experience the arts. A division of the N.C. Department of Cultural Resources, the Arts Council serves as a catalyst for the development of arts organizations and facilities throughout the state as it makes grants and offers technical assistance. ###
