Camp near Richmond August 22 [62]
Dear Mother,
We left our camp near Petersburg (as I wrote you on our departure) on Tuesday the 19th and arrived here day before yesterday after today's very severe marching. The first march was about 15 or 17 miles and we started about 10 AM the roads were almost intolerable it had been sometime since we had had any rain and the dust was so great at times that I could barely see the men of my own company and you can imagine what we suffered. The next day they commence to march at 7 AM and marched 9 miles by 2 p.m. the dust if anything was more intolerable than that

Description	William H. S. Burgwyn writes his mother to let her know that his regiment has arrived at their new camp near Richmond. The march was very dusty, the weather has turned cold and he will need to keep his brother's blankets. He also reports that “Harry’s” [Henry King Burgwyn, Jr.] regiment is anxious for him to return.
