Thirty Fifth Regiment N.C.T
August 19th 1862
Dear Mother
I write in haste to tell you that this morning at 2 AM we received orders to hold ourselves and readiness to march at 10 o'clock with three days cooked provisions. Our major says we are going to Richmond and I don't think there can be any doubt but that we will join Stonewall. I do not know whether Harry's Regiment is ordered off for not but I suppose it is if it has not been taken out of ransoms brigade of which I have heard nothing.
I will write if I can from Richmond or at the first stopping place that way do not know whether we will be allowed to take our baggage with us or not but if we go to Stonewall I imagine we will not be allowed to carry anything with us. I sent over Pompey yesterday to see if Harry had come but found he had not I hope he came last night or that he will come before
