Dear Mother
Harry has before this told you why I have not written you today I having obtained leave to come to Petersburg I sit down to tell you everything that has occurred.
The night Harry left us brigade received marching orders to go to Drury's bluff as it was supposed it marched as far as 2 miles the other side of Petersburg on the road to Drury's bluff but when we arrived there orders came for us to march back again from where we came the real object being to attack the Yankees who was reported
