Seven telephone membership corporations have been authorized
by the North Carolina Rural Electrification Authority and chartered.
Five of these, when their facilities are complete, will have in service
2,387 miles of line serving 10,031 members.
The Yadkin Valley Telephone Membership Corporation, with
headquarters at Yadkinville and covering unserved areas of Yadkin
and Davie counties, has facilities under construction costing $638,000.
The Surry Telephone Membership Corporation, with headquar-ters
at Dobson, and the Skyline Telephone Membership Corporation,
expect to begin construction shortly. The Surry Corporation's pro-ject
totals $595,000 and the Skyline project $1,060,000.
The Tri-County Telephone Membership Corporation at Belhaven
has an allocation of $255,000 and the Cherokee Telephone Member-ship
Corporation at Banner Elk has an allocation of $327,000.
The Wilkes Telephone Membership Corporation at Wilkesboro
and the Lower Cape Fear Telephone Membership Corporation at
Elizabethtown have been chartered and expect to qualify for loans.
CHRISTMAS MESSAGE
December 24, 1952
Christmas time, the most joyous season of all for children, has an
even deeper significance for those who have reached womanhood and
manhood.
In celebrating Christmas we observe the birthday of the Prince
of Peace Who two thousand years ago proclaimed the brotherhood
of all mankind and the doctrine of good will toward all.
As we gather tomorrow, with our loved ones and friends, around
our Christmas trees and bountifully filled tables, let us dedicate
ourselves to keeping alive the Christmas spirit throughout all the
days of the coming year.
Then, and only then, will peace for all people, in all the lands
throughout the world, become a reality.
