Structural Pest Control Bulletin Spring 2006 Volume 15, Issue 3 Published by the Structural Pest Control Division • UPCO Convicted in Davidson County .... 1 • CCU Requirements ......... 1 • Registered Technician School Reminder .... 1 • RT Exam Schedule April - June 2006 .... 2 • New license Exam location ................... 2 • Termiticide volume & cost tables for pre-contruction treatments ........... 3,4 in this issue: UNLICENSED PEST CONTROL OPERATOR CONVICTED IN DAVIDSON COUNTY Division Inspectors Micah Raub and Paul Lail recently performed an investigation of unlicensed pest control work being performed in the Davidson County area. As a result of their investigation a Winston-Sa-lem man was convicted in Davidson County Court on 12-07-05. Charles Edward Carver of Winston-Salem pled no contest to two counts of performing structural pest control without a license. While employed as a sales/service technician for a pest control company Mr. Carver was presenting himself to homeowners as the licensee. Also, he was not providing proper paperwork and asking that checks be made out to him instead of the pest control company that he worked for. Mr. Carver received a 30 day sentence (which was suspended), placed on one year supervised probation, and ordered not to engage in structural pest control until properly licensed. He was also ordered to pay $125.00 restitution to one of the homeowners and to pay court costs of $110.00. REGISTERED TECHNICIAN SCHOOL REMINDER Division inspectors continue to be forced to turn school registrants away. Before attending the RT School, the employee must complete the Registered Technician - Introductory Training Workbook and 24 hours of on-the-job training. RT candidates who attempt to attend the RT School without completed workbooks will be turned away. RT CANDIDATES MUST HAVE THEIR COMPLETED AND SIGNED WORKBOOKS WITH THEM TO BE ADMITTED TO THE RT SCHOOL. CCU REQUIREMENTS: STAY ON TRACK OR PREPARE TO RETEST Every Licensee and Certified Applicator should make it a priority to keep up with their CCU (Continu-ing Certification Units) Requirements on a regular basis-unless you don’t mind taking a Recertification Test every 5 years. Licensees and Non-Commericial Certified Applicators must obtain at least one credit in four out of their five-year recertification period. Commercial Certified Appplicators must obtain at least one credit in three out of five years. The total number of credits that must be obtained at the end of your 5 year period are as follows: Number of phases you have: One phase = 5 specific to that phase + 5 in any phase(s) for a total of 10 Two phase = 5 specific to each phase + 5 in any phase(s) for a total of 15 Three phases = 5 specific to each phase + 5 in any phase(s) for a total of 20 The following table helps to explain your year-to-year cycle and it is an example of someone whose 5 year period ends in 2010. When you count your years, be sure to go by our fiscal year (or Renewal Period). Each beginning and ending date equals one year. Begins Ends 7-1-05 6-30-06 7-1-06 6-30-07 7-1-07 6-30-08 7-1-08 6-30-09 7-1-09 6-30-10 Credit will not be given for duplicate courses in the same 5-year period. If you attend a class on 3-09-06 and another on 8-11-06 these courses will be accredited to different years. The class taken on 3-09-06 will be accredited to the 05-06 year. The class taken on 8-11-06 will be accredited to the 06-07 year. RENEWALS 2006-2007 Renewal packets will be mailed by May 1, 2006. If you do not receive your renewal packet by May 31, 2006, please contact the Division at 919-733-6100. TERMITICIDE VOLUME & COST TABLES FOR PRECONSTRUCTION TREATMENTS In the Spring 1998 and Spring 2001 issues of the Structural Pest Control Bulletin the Division published tables to illustrate ter-miticide volume and costs associated with termite pretreatments of structures. The following tables are for crawl space, supported slab and monolithic slab structures and they reflect 2006 prices. Please remember that these estimates are only for chemical costs and do not take in consideration labor costs, equipment costs, etc. Termiticide Volume and Costs for Pre-Construction Treatment of a Crawlspace Structure Cost Gallons for Vertical Barrier Gallons for Horizontal Barrier Total Product Name Registrant Concentration (%) per Gallon Vertical Barrier Cost Horizontal Barrier Cost Chemical Cost Termidor BASF 0.06 $1.60 156.80 $250.88 28.80 $46.08 $296.96 0.12 $3.20 156.80 $501.76 28.80 $92.16 $593.92 Premis 2 PreTreat Bayer 0.05 $1.20 156.80 $188.07 28.80 $34.54 $222.61 0.10 $2.40 156.80 $376.13 28.80 $69.09 $445.22 Premise 75 Bayer 0.05 $1.36 156.80 $212.90 28.80 $39.10 $252.01 0.10 $2.72 156.80 $425.81 28.80 $78.21 $504.02 I Maxx Pro Univar 0.05 $1.20 156.80 $188.16 28.80 $34.56 $222.72 0.10 $2.40 156.80 $376.32 28.80 $69.12 $445.44 Talstar One FMC 0.06 $1.12 156.80 $175.62 28.80 $32.26 $207.87 0.12 $2.24 156.80 $351.23 28.80 $64.51 $415.74 Bifen IT Control Solutions 0.06 $0.72 156.80 $112.90 28.80 $20.74 $133.63 Prevail FT FMC 0.25 $0.78 156.80 $121.52 28.80 $22.32 $143.84 0.50 $1.55 156.80 $243.04 28.80 $44.64 $287.68 Demon MAX Syngenta 0.25 $0.73 156.80 $114.39 28.80 $21.01 $135.40 0.50 $1.46 156.80 $228.77 28.80 $42.02 $270.79 Cyper TC Control Solutions 0.50 $0.64 156.80 $100.35 28.80 $18.43 $118.78 1.00 $1.28 156.80 $200.70 28.80 $36.86 $237.57 Dragnet SFR FMC 0.50 $1.23 156.80 $193.57 28.80 $35.55 $229.12 1.00 $2.47 156.80 $387.14 28.80 $71.11 $458.25 Tengard SFR United Phosphorus 0.50 $0.77 156.80 $120.11 28.80 $22.06 $142.17 1.00 $1.53 156.80 $240.22 28.80 $44.12 $284.34 The above calculations are based on a crawlspace home 30' x 50' with an attached one car garage 12' x 24 '.
