Active Job Applicants Registered for Work With ESC Offices By Applicants’ County of Residence January 2011 Employment Security Commission of North Carolina Labor Market Information Division Post Office Box 25903 Raleigh, NC 27611-5903 ESC Online: http://www.ncesc.com Job applicants are persons who have completed job applications with local Employment Security Commission offices and who are considered to be available for referral to job openings or training situations. Data for this report are compiled by computer through the Commission’s Automated Reporting System and are summarized in terms of applicants’ county of residence. This active job applicant summary data should be useful as an indicator of available labor supply throughout the state. When using this information in connection with industrial development efforts, it is important to consider the following points: ♦ All potential job seekers do not register for work with local ESC offices and many applicants who do register fail to keep their applications active. Thus, the data in this report does not represent the total available labor supply. ♦ Applicants are assigned occupational classification codes by ESC staff, according to their previous work experience, training, education, interests, etc. Classifications include all types of workers from professional to unskilled. ♦ New and expanding industries seldom draw their workers from a single county; therefore, applicants from adjacent counties should also be considered. Reports on the job applicants residing within a desired commuting radius of a specific location may be obtained upon request from the Labor Market Information Division. Such reports also show the principal occupational classification of job applicants.
