Ti'o. 14. ::::::::::::L)fcoisi.i\TURfci or Nokth Cahoi ina. : }:::::;::: ::18<J.^ K£PORT —-^•* — The select committee-, raised by a resolutioa of this House to inquire into, and report to the Senate, what part of the printing done for the Siaie is executed for the sum regularly paid as a compensation, and what part is embraced under the head of extra printing; likewise to inquire into the expediency of changins; the mode of having the public printing executed, and of making a specijk contract for all that may be required annually, have had the same tinder consideration^ and have procured the following; documents and facts: The paper marked A, contains a statement from the year 1814 to 183S, inclusive, shewing who done the public printing in each year, and what was the stated salary and the an.ount of extra printing in each year, and the aggregate paid in each year for the public and extra printing. The paper marked B, contains a statement of all or most of the items constituting the extra printing, the items of printing embraced in the sta-ted salary, and the different Ia\ys relative to the public printing. The committee find in the following acts of Assembly, now in existence and upon our statute books, that in the year 1810 the salary of the Public Printer M-as fixed by law at the sum of 900 dollars, and so remained until the year 1815, when it was raised to the sum of 1000 dollars, andcoatinu-ed at that sum up to 1826, when the salary was reduced to the sum of 900 dollars, which is the salary now fixed by law. The committee further find that the duties of the Public Printer have been altered and varied from time to time by various legislative acts upon the subject; and that the duties of the Public Printer required by the laws now in force are as follows, to wit: To print a sufiicieat number of the Journals of each les-aion of the General Assembly to supply each Member thereof with one co* ftjy and the offices of the Governor, Secretary, Treasurer and Comptrol-er with each one copyj one other copy for each of the Clerks of the iQeue-ral AsKembly; a sufficient number of the Acts passed at each session to Mrve each Membjcrof the General Assembly with one copy, and one copy fur each «f the public ofipces and Clerks aforesaid; one copy for every Judge of the Courts and of the Clerks of the County and Superior Courts; «ne for the Attorney and Solicitor General each; one for every Clerk and Master in Equity; one copy for every Justice of the Peace, She-rift" and Coroner throughout the State; one copy of the Public Laws for thej Executive of each State in the Union. It is also the duty of the Public Printer to print for the use of the two Houses of the General Assembly, whilst in session, copies, for every member thereof, oftheRules of Order of their respective Houses, and of such public Bills, Resolutions, Reports or Messages, as they mny, from time to time direct; as well as a coyy of the titles of the Laws passed at the close of each session, cer-tificate, for the attendance ef the Members, and alphab<>ticaHiits sf tb»
