EASLEY ANNOUNCES 65 JOBS IN STOKES COUNTY One North Carolina Fund Grant Helps KobeWieland expand In Pine Hall RALEIGH – Gov. Mike Easley today announced that KobeWieland Copper Products will expand its manufacturing facility in Stokes County, creating 65 jobs and investing $71 million during the next three years. The announcement was made possible in part by a $130,000 One North Carolina Fund grant. “KobeWieland’s decision is another example of why North Carolina has earned a number-1 ranking in attracting new and expanding businesses,” Easley said. “We will continue to invest in education and worker training so companies know they will find the skilled, trained workers they need.” KobeWieland Copper Products is an international supplier of copper pipe and tubing for the air conditioning and plumbing industries. The company currently employs 483 workers at its facility in Pine Hall. While wages will vary by job function, the average weekly wage of the new jobs is $857 plus benefits, which is more than the Stokes County average weekly wage of $456 not including benefits. “Our workforce is excited about having the opportunity to modernize and expand the North Carolina facility with an all-new production line for copper tubing,” said Steffen Sigloch, KobeWieland’s CEO. “We consider it an advantage working with our established and highly skilled workforce rather than moving offshore. Also, a location in North Carolina is a logistical benefit to our North American customer base.” The One North Carolina Fund assists the state in industry recruitment and expansion by providing financial assistance through local governments to attract business projects that will stimulate economic activity and create new jobs in the state. One North Carolina Fund grants require and are contingent upon a local match. Through the use of this Fund, more than 25,000 jobs and $3.5 billion in investment have been created since 2001. Other partners who helped make this announcement possible include the N.C. Department of Commerce, the Apprenticeship and Training Division of the Department of Labor, Forsyth Technical Community College and Stokes County.
