EASLEY ANNOUNCES 170 JOBS FOR ROBESON COUNTY One N.C. Fund Grant Helps Brings Comark Building Systems and $3.6 Million Investment RALEIGH – Gov. Mike Easley announced today that Comark Building Systems, a manufacturer of custom commercial modular and portable classroom buildings, will locate its first East Coast manufacturing facility in Robeson County, creating 170 jobs during the next three years and investing $3.6 million in the area. This announcement is made possible in part by a $240,000 grant from the One North Carolina Fund. “Comark Building Systems’ decision to locate its new facility here in North Carolina is proof that our business friendly climate and highly skilled workforce are continuing to attract high quality jobs and industry,” said Easley. “We will continue to make these smart investments to ensure that North Carolina remains highly competitive in the global economy.” Comark Building Systems, founded in Texas in 1989, currently operates manufacturing plants in Texas and California. The 170 new jobs will include administrative and skilled manufacturing positions and will pay an average salary of $550 per week plus benefits. The plant is located in the 145,000-square-foot former Genesis Homes facility adjacent to the Commerce Technology Industrial Park and is scheduled to begin operations in April. “Comark is extremely excited to open its Eastern region facility in Robeson County,” said John Beddow, vice president of Eastern operations for Comark Building Systems. “North Carolina’s long history of excellence in manufacturing, a skilled workforce, training assistance and infrastructure makes this the ideal location for our East Coast operations.” The One North Carolina Fund helps the state recruit and expand quality jobs by providing financial assistance to businesses or industries deemed by the governor to be vital to a healthy and growing state economy. Through use of this Fund, more than 13,000 jobs and more than $1.7 billion in investment have been created since 2001. Other contributors that made this announcement possible include the N.C. Department of Commerce, Robeson County and the N.C. Community College System. For information about possible job opportunities with Comark Building Systems, contact the North Carolina Employment Security Commission office in Lumberton at 910/618-5500. ###
