EASLEY ANNOUNCES LAUNCH OF HEALTHY NORTH CAROLINA MONTH WEBSITE RALEIGH – Governor Mike Easley today announced the launch of a new website as a part of September 2004’s Healthy North Carolina Month. The website, www.healthync.com, will inform people of fitness and wellness activities in their communities. “The website is a useful tool for all North Carolinians in their efforts to get healthy,” said Easley. The site includes a listing of Healthy North Carolina Month activities by county, as well as contact information and links for all local health departments, event sponsors and Healthy N.C. partners. In addition, the site will include materials needed to organize an event. Links to health organizations as well as information about health issues can also be found on the site. In May, the Governor proclaimed September as Healthy North Carolina Month and encouraged all 100 counties to participate by sponsoring prevention, wellness or fitness activities. The goal of Healthy North Carolina Month is to raise awareness about health issues and to encourage North Carolina citizens to engage in healthy activities. Several counties have already planned activities. Information about these events is available on the website. The N.C. Division of Public Health is coordinating the initiative and is working with community leaders in each county to help organize Healthy North Carolina Month wellness activities. For more information regarding Healthy North Carolina Month, contact your local health department or visit www.healthync.com. ###
