EASLEY TO PARTICIPATE IN SYMPOSIUM FOR GOVERNORS IN CHAPEL HILL RALEIGH - Gov. Mike Easley will participate in Public Education in Your State: Setting the Agenda and Staying the Course -- A Symposium By Governors For Governors hosted by The James B. Hunt, Jr. Institute for Educational Leadership and Policy on December 1 and 2, 2002 at The Paul J. Rizzo Conference Center at (150 DuBose House Ln.) in Chapel Hill. Gov. Easley will give welcoming remarks at the opening session of the symposium on Sunday, December 1 at 6:30 p.m. He will participate in discussions with Governors and education leaders on Monday, December 2 from 8 a.m.-3:30 p.m. The symposium on education reform by Governors for Governors will offer candid, informal and frank discussions on how to accomplish school reform. The event will allow Governors from across the country a chance to work with both experts and peers who have managed the politics of education reform, with the goal of leaving the retreat with policy strategies specific to their states. Speakers will discuss how to craft effective policies, how to overcome setbacks in pushing an education agenda, the alliances critical for success, and how to secure support and move reform politically. In addition to Gov. Easley, speakers include the following: Hon. Jim Hunt, Chairman, James B. Hunt, Jr. Institute for Educational Leadership and Policy Hon. Roderick Paige, U.S. Secretary of Education Hon. Bob Taft, Governor of Ohio Hon. Frank O’Bannon, Governor of Indiana Hon. Mike Leavitt, Governor of Utah Hon. Roy Barnes, Governor of Georgia and Chair, ECS
