Perdue Appoints Members to Victims of Sterilization Task Force RALEIGH- Gov. Bev Perdue today appointed five members to the Governor’s Task Force to Determine the Method of Compensation for the Victims of North Carolina Eugenics Board. Laura I. Gerald, M.D., M.P.H., from Raleigh, is the current executive director of the NC Health and Wellness Trust Fund. She is a physician and will be chair of the board. She received her M.D. from Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine and her M.P.H. from Harvard University School of Public Health. Fetzer Mills is a life-long resident of Wadesboro, N.C. He graduated from UNC-Chapel Hill and UNC School of Law. He was elected Chief District Court Judge in 1968 and was appointed to the Superior Judge in 1976 where he served for over 20 years. Demetrius Worley Berry is a partner at Greensboro law firm, Brotherton Ford Yeoman Berry & Weaver. She has served on the board of directors for the Greensboro Bar Association and the Workers Compensation Section Council of the NC Bar Association. She graduated from UNC School of Law and received her B.A. from Campbell University. Phoebe Zerwick is currently a lecturer in the Dept. of English at Wake Forest University. She received her M.S. from Columbia University and her B.A. from the University of Chicago. Lenwood G. Davis is a historian and an adjunct professor for the Department of English and Foreign Languages at Winston-Salem State University. He holds a doctorate from Carnegie Mellon in Pittsburg, Penn., and many other academic honors from various universities. He has published a number of books and articles on Black History and other topics.
