Mike Easley has appointed Dr. Samuel Warburton of Durham to the North Carolina Health Care Information and Communications Alliance Inc. Warburton is a consulting professor in the Department of Community and Family Medicine at Duke University Medical Center, where he has taught since 1979. His clinical experience includes 15 years with Durham County General Hospital, nine years with Duke-Watts Family Medicine Center and six years with Lakewood Family Practice. In addition, he served as national medical director for quality management at Aetna, senior vice president for medical affairs and chief medical officer at NYLCare Health Plans, senior vice president for medical affairs at Maxicare Health Plans and medical director of Carolina Access. Warburton received his bachelor’s degree from John Hopkins University and his medical doctorate from the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine. The alliance works to provide low-cost, high-quality health care by optimizing resources and to provide information and technology for health care reform and policy development to facilitate reform. There are 36 members in the alliance. The governor appoints four members. ###
