BEVERLY EAVES PERDUE GOVERNOR NATIONAL CHILD PASSENGER SAFETY WEEK 2009 BY THE GOVERNOR OF THE STATE OF NORTH CAROLINA A PROCLAMATION "VHEREAS, children are our most precious resource in North Carolina and between 2006 and 2008, more than I 67,000 children were involved in motor vehicle crashes in our state, of those, 611 children were killed, for children 3 to 6 and 8 to I 4 years old, motor vehicle crashes are the leading cause of death; and "VHEREAS, North Carolina passed laws requiring the use of child safety seats, booster seats, and seat belts for children traveling in motor vehicles, these laws have saved the lives of nearly 4,000 North Carolina children in the last two years, we also know that child safety restraints are most effective when installed and used correctly, sadly, three out of every four child restraints are not properly used; and WHEREAS, North Carolina is committed to working closely with our partners, Safe Kids North Carolina and the Governor's Highway Safety Program to help reduce the number of young lives lost on our roadways, our goal is to educate parents and caregivers on how to properly install and use child restraints, during National Child Passenger Safety Week, there will be free child seat inspection stations set up across the state beginning on September 12, National Seat Check Saturday; NOW, THEREFORE, I, BEVERLY EA YES PERDUE, Governor of the State of North Carolina, do hereby proclaim September .12-18, 2009, as "NATIONAL CHILD SAFETY "VEEK" and September I 2, 2009, as "NATIONAL SEAT CHECK SATURDAY", and urge all North Carolinians to help reduce injuries and the tragic loss of life by buckling up themselves and every child on every trip, every time. BEYERL YEA YES PERDUE IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand and affixed the Great Seal of the State of N01ih Carolina at the Capitol in Raleigh this fourteenth day of August in the year of our Lord two thousand and nine and the Independence of the United States of America the two hundred and thirtyfoutih.
