BEVERLY EAVES PERDUE GOVERNOR DISABILITY EMPLOYMENT AWARENESS MONTH 2012 BY THE GOVERNOR OF THE STATE OF NORTH CAROLINA A PROCLAMATION WHEREAS, Public Law 176, enacted by Congress in 1945, designated the first week in October as National Employ the Physically Handicapped Week; and in 1988, Congress changed the name to "National Disability Employment Awareness Month"; and WHEREAS, on March 13, 1998, Executive Order 13078 established the National Task Force on Employment of Adults with Disabilities to reduce employment barriers for people with disabilities; and WHEREAS, on July 26, 2000, Executive Order 13164 promoted a model for the workplace that provides reasonable accommodation for people with disabilities; and WHEREAS, on January 10, 2001, Executive Order 13187 established the President' s Disability Partnership Board; and WHEREAS, the Department of Labor has selected the national theme for 2012 to be A Strong Workforce is an Inclusive Worliforce: What Can You Do?; and WHEREAS, people with disabilities have the right to maximize their potential by making the most of their intellect, talents and abilities; and WHEREAS, the State of North Carolina recognizes the enormous potential of individuals with disabilities and encourages everyone to work toward their full integration into the workforce and community; NOW, THEREFORE, I, BEVERLY EAVES PERDUE, Governor ofthe State of North Carolina, do hereby proclaim October 2012, as "DISABILITY EMPLOYMENT AWARENESS MONTH" in North Carolina, and urge all citizens to join in this observance. BEVERLY EAVES PERDUE I have hereunto set my hand and affixed the Great Seal of the State of North Carolina the Capitol in Raleigh this tenth day of September in the year of our Lord two thousand and twelve, and of the Independence of the United States of America the two hundred and thirty-seventh.
