BEVERLY EAVES PERDUE GOVERNOR CONSTITUTION DAY and CONSTITUTION WEEK 2012 BY THE GOVERNOR OF THE STATE OF NORTH CAROLINA A PROCLAMATION WHEREAS, the Constitution of the United States of America is the guardian of our liberties and the embodiment of the principles of government in a republic dedicated to rule by law; and WHEREAS, September 17, 2012, marks the 225th anniversary of the drafting of the Constitution of the United States of America by the Constitutional Convention, providing an historic opportunity for all Americans to remember the achievements of our Founding Fathers and to reflect on our rights and responsibilities as citizens; and WHEREAS, the Constitution fundamentally affirms governance by We the People; and WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper to officially recognize this remarkable document and milestone anniversary, as well as the 27 amendments to it; and WHEREAS, the Constitution of the United States is the foundation that our nation has lived by and built upon since its inception, its words continue to resonate and help our nation evolve and live up to the words of our Founding Fathers; and WHEREAS, Public Law 915 guarantees the issuing of a proclamation each year by the President of the United States of America designating September 17-23 as Constitution Week; NOW, THEREFORE, I, BEVERLY EAVES PERDUE, Governor of the State ofNorth Carolina, do hereby proclaim September 17, 2012, as "CONSTITUTION DAY" and September 17-23, 2012, as "CONSTITUTION. WEEK" in North Carolina, and I ask our citizens to reaffirm the ideals the framers of the Constitution had in 1787 by vigilantly protecting the freedoms guaranteed to us through this guardian of our · · that lost rights may never be regained. BEVERLY EA YES PERDUE , I have hereunto set my hand and affixed the Great Seal of the State of North Carolina at the Capitolm Raleigh this fifteenth day of August in the year of our Lord two thousand and twelve, and of the Independence of the United States of America the two hundred and thirty-seventh.
