exceed ing two years fbr the tribes cast ofthe mississippi and not exceeding three years fnr the tribes west of that ruer and the person applying for such license shall give bond in a penal sum not means or friends and managed to support themselves and families the dwelling of a woman was lately pointed out to me who with u family of grand children left at the nge of sixty her native slate north and sub-agents within their respec tive districts be and are hereby author zed and em powered to take depositions of witnesses touching any depredations within the purview of the two preceding sections of tl is act and to administer an oathtothe de ponents sec li and be it further enacted that it shall be the duty of the superintendents agents nnd sub-agents tn endeavor to procure the arrest and trial of all indians accused of committing any crime olfence or misde meanor,and all other persons who may have committed erui.es or otfen.es within any stale or territory and and have fled into the indian country either by demand ing the same of tbe chiefs of lhe proper tribe or by such other means as il.e president may authorize ; and the president may direct the military force of the united stales to lie employed in ibe apprehension of such in dians and also in preventing ur terminating hostilities between any of lhe indian tribes sec 20 and be it further enacted that if any per son shall sell exchange or give barter or dispose of any spirituous liquor or wine to an indian in the in dian country such person shall forfeit and pay the sum of five hundred dollars and if any person shall intro duce ur attempt to introduce any spirituous liquor or wine into the indian country except such supplies as shall be necessary for the officers of tlie united states and troops of the sort-ice under the direction of the yvnr department such person shall forfeit and pay a sum nol exceeding three hundred dollara ; and if any buperintende.it of indian afii.irs indian agent sab agent or cominniiding officer of a military poet has rea son to suspect or ia informed that any white person or indian is about to introduce or lias introduced any spi rituous liquor or wine into the indian country in vto lation ofthe provisions of this section it shall be lawful for such superintendent indian agent or sub-agent or military officer agreeably to such regulations aa may be established by the president of the united states to cause the boats stores packages and places of depo site of such person to bo searched and if any such apirib.us liquur or wine ia found the goods means or friends and managed to support themselves and families the dwelling of a woman was lately pointed out to me who with u family of grand children left at the nge of sixty her native slate north son shall sell exchange or give barter or dispose of any spirituous liquor or wine to an indian in the in dian country such person shall forfeit and pay the sum of five hundred dollars and if any
