Mr. H. G. Jones, State Archivist
N.C. Department of Archives and History
Raleigh, North Carolina
Dear H.G.:
I thought your department might want to make copies
of some or all of these Bible Records all of which have
been thoroughly authenticated. I have gone further and
spot checked the information by data in census reports,
newspaper notices, etc., and found no evidence of inconsistency.
These records relate to the Hertford County families for
the most part. The Baker family are relatives of Captain
John Baker, nephew of General Lawrence Baker of Hertford
County, both of whom had military service in the Revolution.
Here is a listing of family names which occur in these
Records:
Baker
Browne
Outlaw
Willoford
Dunning
Portis
Lancaster
Davis
Robertson
Ellison
Harrell
Scull
Mitchell
Watson
Hardy
Betts
Barker
Godard
Hatton
You will note that
these Bibles were
printed from 1841
to 1907 and that the
earliest dates for
individuals recorded
1775, 1791, 1795 and
forward. Please let me
have these Photostats
back when you have
finished with them.
Cordially yours,
Charles [signature]
