About the collections

A joint project of the State Archives of North Carolina and State Library of North Carolina, the goal of the North Carolina Digital Collections is to support instructional and research needs related to the history and culture of North Carolina.


The North Carolina Digital Collections is a collaborative effort, bringing together items held in the physical collections of the State Archives and State Library of North Carolina. The primary focus is on documentary and state government information from and about North Carolina.

Copyright and Use Restrictions

The materials included in the North Carolina Digital Collections are made available for use in research, teaching, and private study, pursuant to U.S. Copyright law. Each item in the Collections has a rights statement included in its description, which identifies any restrictions on use. The user assumes full responsibility for any use of the materials, including but not limited to, infringement of copyright and publication rights of reproduced materials.

Unless otherwise stipulated in the rights statement, we request that reuse of any item carry a credit line stating "Courtesy of the North Carolina Department of Cultural Resources."
